Exchange Company
The term Exchange Company refers to a third party organisation which facilitates the exchange of a vacation / timeshare ownership on behalf of the owner through its extensive portfolio of properties Worldwide. Exchange Companies are NOT sellers of Timeshares they are independent companies, dedicated to enhancing the timeshare experience for the timeshare community. The Exchange Companies allow timeshare owners through their network of timeshare resorts, exchanges to any destination Worldwide. Now if you think this sounds confusing its not, quite simply you deposit your vacation / timeshare ownership within your exchange companies bank, a little like depositing money into you bank, then you request an exchange through your exchange company to another destination, a little like withdrawing your money from another branch.
The two main Exchange Companies are Resort Condominiums International (RCI) and Interval International (II). Both exchange networks have an extensive portfolio of resort destinations which you may browse online at their respective websites (links included above). An owner is able to utilise their vacation / timeshare ownership through their exchange company to travel to unlimited destinations throughout the World. There is usually an annual fee for membership to an exchange company and in most cases they offer a discount for multiple year membership. When you deposit or bank your ownership with an exchange company, they will give it a value (see trading power) reflecting the demand of that banking, i.e. standard of resort, size of accommodation, time of year banked and so on. Once the trading power has been determined, the higher the trading power, the greater options available to the owner.
